Transformed a classmate's personal story into an engaging Orihon-style folding booklet, utilizing typography and visual design to enhance the narrative impact.
The inside of the book is where the story is developed and illustrated.
I used colors and symbols, such as deep blue, crisscrossed lines, curvy shapes, and a staring person, to convey the message of stress, suffocation, endless thoughts, and sleeplessness that cause depression.
The central, longest panel in the book depicts the healing process, which demands significant effort and time. The motion background symbolizes the passing of time.
I chose the word “CHANGE” because overcoming depression requires a shift in perspective, a change in how one views people and the world. The intermittent nature of this process is portrayed through the arrangement of the letters and the colors within them.
To contrast with depression, I depicted happiness, positivity, and movement using yellow, green, light blue, and brown. I also incorporated a dandelion, which symbolizes letting go, resilience, and persistence. The dandelion's illustration resembles an iris, symbolizing a new way of seeing life.
The outside of the book showcases a full spectrum of earthy and cheerful colors – brown, green, orange, and light blue as the background – concluding with a white dandelion seed flying in the sky, representing a free spirit.
